2007-2008
I'm not going to write too much here, just because. Hopefully I remember to update this each semester. Well for Spring '09(in order of when I have them):
Classical Mythology: To say the least it's an interesting class. I need to take TRAD classes, which are like electives and this was on that I thought might be something I could go through for a semester without killing myself from boredom. It's a lot of stuff to take in, but I like it. Professor ins't too bad, he knows how to lecture. Main issue is that the reading assignments can be really long. We go chapter by chapter, and some of the chapters are unbearably long. Zeus' Rise to Power was around 60 pages long, and most of it was just excerpt from Hesiod or some other writer of the day.
Math: Elements of Calculus. It's pretty much calculus but without the trig, or so the professor explains it as. I found out on the first day that it's not really the class I want to be in. It's math 113 and I actually wanted to be in math 124 or 125 because those involve trig which is needed more later math courses. I need to take a bit more math than just this. However, there were no open spots in 124 or 125 so I figured I'd just take this for now, since it's almost the same thing, and then pick up a math course equivalent to 124 over the summer at GCC. It's hard, once we got to derivatives I kind of lost sight of everything. The professor is good, I'm just bad at math.
General Chemistry: It's...well, it's chemistry. It's better than last year in high school. I know a good deal of it already, although I am learning some stuff. The professor is great, he's a jolly old guy who knows what he's doing. Other than that I don't have much to say about it.
MCB/ECOL: It's technically MCB 182 but is cross listed as ECOL 182. Either way, ew. For some reason there are three guys teaching it, one guy at a time. The one who is teaching it right now is B-O-R-I-N-G. I can barely stay awake in the class, all he just is mumble stuff in his monotone voice and then gets off on so many side notes that supposedly have to do with what we're learning that day yet I fail to see the connection. I can't wait until the class is over. At this point I can honestly say I miss Dr. Jorstad's 181 lecture. It was extremely difficult, I finished off with a C, but I learned so much in there. She knew how to teach the material and get it to stick.
LABS: I'm just going to put my two labs together in this one little part. EW LABS. Chem lab I have for four damn hours Wednesday afternoon. I can't understand the TA who teaches it and it's annoying that we have to do a step then go sit back down to debrief on the next step, so on and so on. It would be much faster if we just did it all at one time. Then MCB lab. I hated 181, although I had my group members to complain about it with. 182 is possibly worse. The people I'm usually partners with didn't even take 181 lab. It's all computer games. First lab we had to count guppies. Second lab we had to create a phylogenetic tree. Oh wow, real exciting. Worse thing about it is that I have it at 8AM on Friday. I can't really function well before 9 in the morning, yet I have to get up at 7AM and get dressed, leave the dorm and ride my bike all the way to Koffler. Last Friday I nearly had a crash while getting into the main bike lane, the sun was in my eyes and I didn't see the biker coming. But yeah, they both suck.
I should be taking English 102. However, they fail to have enough classes open for every freshman to fit into them. I totally missed priority registration, although I didn't even know about it, and after 2 days when I was finally able to begin registering there wasn't a single English class open. I checked day after day but nothing. Oh well, I'm going to take that over the summer at GCC too.
